Wild Chickens in the Park
Have you ever seen a chicken walking freely in a park? In some parts of Singapore, wild chickens can be spotted moving about as if they belong there — because they do.
These are often kampong chickens, known for their colourful feathers and lively behaviour. They spend their day scratching the ground, searching for seeds, insects and small bits of food.
In the early morning, you might hear a rooster crowing, announcing the start of the day. As the sun rises, the chickens begin exploring, moving quietly through grass and bushes.
They are always alert. At the slightest sound, they pause, look around and quickly move away if they sense danger.
Sometimes, you may spot a mother hen with her chicks. The tiny chicks follow closely behind, learning where to go and what to eat.
Even in a busy city like Singapore, these wild chickens remind us that nature is never far away. Parks and green spaces are not just for people — they are home to many animals too.
Next time you are in a park, look closely. You might just spot a chicken wandering by, going about its day.
